That was A Lot of Fun! Coby needs more Comedies in her schedule.
This is a film you have to see multiple times, because there’s no way to catch all the jokes. Coby missed all the Jars of Mayonnaise behind the guy at the Mayo Clinic, and Captain Oveur’s line, “Gimme Ham on five, hold the Mayo.”
Julie Hagerty, as Elaine. Possibly you’re thinking of the newest A Christmas Story sequel… A Christmas Story Christmas (2022). She took over the role of Ralphie’s Mom after Melinda Dillon retired.
Some other Julie Hagerty comedies to see, if you haven’t…
Lost in America (1985)… written, directed and co-starring Albert Brooks.
What About Bob? (1991)… directed by Frank Oz, and also starring Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss.
Noises Off… (1992)… directed by Peter Bogdanovich, and also starring Michael Caine and an All-Star Cast in a Hilariously Funny Comedy about actors putting on a play. Highly, Highly Recommended!
Another actor you missed, but have recognized before was Jonathan Banks, who played Mike Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. He was the Air-Traffic controller, Gunderson. (The guy who checked on the Turkey)
The film was cast with a bunch of Classic Actors, including…
Lloyd Bridges as McCroskey (Father of Jeff and Beau Bridges) who has been acting since the 30s and 40s. Like Leslie Nielsen, he did other broad comedies in his later years, such as the Hot Shots films with Charlie Sheen.
Recommend… High Noon (1952), starring Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly… and Blown Away (1994) starring Jeff Bridges, Tommy Lee Jones and Forest Whitaker.
Peter Graves as Captain Clarence Oveur, who has been acting since the early 50s. He was mostly known for seasons 2 - 7 of the original Mission Impossible TV series from 1967 - 1973.
Recommend… Stalag 17 (1953), written and directed by Billy Wilder, and starring William Holden, Don Taylor and Otto Preminger.
Robert Stack as Captain Rex Kramer, who has been acting since the early 40s. He may be most well known as the host of Unsolved Mysteries in the 90s.
Recommend… The High and the Mighty (1954) also starring John Wayne. This film is one of a few films that is being parodied in Airplane! (1980). Here is the IMDB description of it…
“When a commercial airliner develops engine problems on a trans-Pacific flight and the pilot loses his nerve, it is up to the washed-up co-pilot Dan Roman to bring the plane in safely.”
Guess which one Robert Stack plays?
The Lady who spoke Jive was a hilarious joke, not just because it was an old white lady speaking Jive, but because it was Barbara Billingsley… June Cleaver from Leave it to Beaver (1957 - 1963) speaking Jive. Before Airplane (1980), Barbara had only done 2 episodes of F.B.I. since Leave it to Beaver had ended in 1963. That was definitely a wild cameo.
The Krishna that you recognized but couldn’t place was David Leisure. Might be a stretch, but possibly you recognize him as Joe Isuzu, from the Isuzu car and truck commercials from the late 80s.

David Leisure also did 7 seasons of a sitcom called Empty Nest, in the early 90s… or he was the detention coach, Mr. Chapin in 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), if that was your kind of movie.

You seemed to know who Ethel Merman was, so not going to mention it… except for one of the Greatest Comedies of All-Time, with The Greatest Comedic Cast ever assembled…
It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), starring just about every comedic actor living at the time… and Spencer Tracy. It’s an Absolute Must See! Highly Recommended!
I mentioned in the beginning Coby needs more comedies in her schedule. To start, I’ll recommend The Pink Panther films directed by Blake Edwards and starring Peter Sellers…
The Pink Panther (1963)
A Shot in the Dark (1964)
The Return of the Pink Panther (1975)
The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976)
Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978)
Thanks again for what y’all do. Really enjoying it :-)
