Well… It turned out that the busted gas gauge wasn’t the only thing wrong with the rented Off-road Vehicle. By the time we figured it out–thanks to one of Jame’s buddies—the day was shot.

There were quite a few frustrating moments, but James was a champ through it all, and was willing to make a go of the exploration the next day.

His buddy had camping gear in his truck, and said, “Why bother driving all the way back to town? You’re over half-way there. Use my gear and get an early start tomorrow.”

Folks… don’t get the wrong idea. The night was friendly, but totally platonic! James is still as available now as he was before the desert debacle!

Worth The Climb

Ailana and James, after their vehicle breakdown and all that it took to get it running again, and after camping in the desert, started their expiration afresh the next day.

James showed Ailana countless interesting formations and helped her with her article for a geology eZine. Then, he smiled and looked at her slyly.

“You wanna see something?”

“See what?” Ailana asked.

“A view. It’s a bit of a hike.”

Ailana thought he should have mentioned that the “hike” also included some challenging scrambles over boulders and short climbs up steep slopes.

They both got a little dirty along the way, but…

That view! Alaina was sure it was worth the climb!
