It's a teardown of that weird police doorbell thing I got from my real estate agent last year, the disappointing conformal coated 720p camera with a squishy button and a surprisingly large battery!

Another big editing project is ready for you! This one is mostly about a weird little pen, but there's plenty of Tuco as well :)
On YouTube now, and it's currently transcoding on diode zone and might be ready by the time you're seeing this,

I haven't decided if this is the final version of the audio or if it needs some beats. This one is going to be less impressive than the button video, but it was another work-in-progress edit that I just really needed to finish.

It's a new video edit! Be the first to see it! :D
It's just a project video, nothing groundbreaking or important, but it's got some nice reversing and machining. I'm trying to finish up video projects that have been partially baked for far too long. Let me know what you think...

Hi everyone, hope folks are staying warm this winter if it's cold where you are.
I've had my head down for a bit working on some new software projects.. I did a little bit of streaming about them lately but largely I've been feeling like it isn't at an especially visually interesting point yet. ("yay, the segfault is now slightly different... progress")
The larger context here though is that I want to make tools that are useful for people to create smaller video sites and other on...

I'm still not a hundred percent sure why or if it's ever okay to build technology, but somehow I found myself engrossed in it again. Maybe I can ask for some help on where to go from here, since I've been going against my previous intuition and keeping this one off github so far.
Anyway, so 2020. I still don't even know what to say that's relevant. I had some energy to walk around my city carrying protest signs earlier this year, and then I had to really focus on g...

First of all, I want to say I hope you and your loved ones are doing as well as can be expected in these times. I want to give you all an update on how I'm doing personally and on my work, but I also feel like none of that is important enough to matter at this point, and perhaps none of it has ever been important to anyone. This project that I've been trying to turn into something worthwhile for years now, just seems wholly incapable of meeting the moment we are in.
So, most importantly...

Hi everyone,
I really appreciate everyone who's been sticking with me through this year. I've been having a rough time with mental health for a lot of it. I've also been getting more and more burned out on both the whole San Francisco Bay area and the DIY-tech-focused work I've been doing.
I can see you reaching for the "unsubscribe" button already; don't worry, I'm not giving up tech junk. I'm just really done holding it up on any kind of pedestal. I really need to be more real a...

I've been mostly just trying to make progress on ongoing projects... stream things, edit video, feed the cat. Lately I've been on some information technology sub-quests to support the shop, and I've been busy with things like making space in the rack, running cable, getting some old computers ready to sell, setting up a new file server, trying to automate more things.
In the midst of that I said "yes" to a couple things people asked me to do. I maintain that this is usually a bad idea, ...

This is one of the videos I struggle with releasing the most. I feel like if the point is to make a short and pithy explanation, I'd be better off with a scripted format. So, that part of me screams to just throw away footage like this. But then, maybe somebody still finds it useful and perhaps it won't tarnish my reputation too much because what do I have to lose 😅

I've been stockpiling almost-finished projects lately because, well, mostly depression. I have this whole series of FPGA videos that I had convinced myself I need to edit and finish all at once. But they don't have some great story arc or anything, they're project videos and edited monologues from the live streams. I've been worried about releasing anything at all before I finish that entire group of videos, and then I simultaneously feel like those videos won't actually be that good anyway s...

Hi there, kind patrons and internet friends! I hope the holidays have been treating you and your family well. I've been kind of a depressed hermit lately but there have been some nice times with friends this past couple weeks, and that's been really nice.
I have so much video in the pipeline; most of all a series of FPGA project videos. The sads have got that pipeline more clogged than usual, but I'm working on that. In the mean time, some other things have been joyful distractions... a...

Hi again, my wonderful patrons, just a quick note that I’ll be streaming tomorrow afternoon (Saturday) with the intent to make it mostly a question and answer session. This comes mostly from feeling lately like people often have questions on Twitter that are too big to answer on Twitter.
I’ve already been getting some good questions for this stream but I’d always appreciate hearing more! If you have something you’d like me to answer on stream you can bring it to me live, or send me a q...

I'll be writing more about this once it's less experimental, but I wanted to let my patrons know something new is in progress, if you hadn't seen it elsewhere.
I've been kinda excited about the potential for "re-decentralizing" the internet, i.e. finding ways to have smaller collections of servers that talk to each other and host communities of people, rather than the all-encompassing global cloud services that are so popular now.
Mastodon is one example of that in the social networking ...

Okay, a few more boxes to open on film, sent in by many of you! I'm still trying to deal with my footage backlog, and I made things a bit harder for myself this week by rebuilding the windows install on my editing machine... but now things are squeaky clean and running smoothly, and I'm sticking the clips together.
As usual, posting this early for patrons before the metadata or thumbnail are set up :)
Right now I'm still trying to just be an editing machine and deal with the backlog, but...

Still trying to clear my footage backlog... I had been stockpiling this footage from doing live streamed unboxing of the new hardware donations that we'll be going into more deeply later, since I wasn't sure what format it should take. Well let's try a few at a time, with a little bit of mystery. Still not sure how the metadata for this video will end up.
Thanks everyone! Still looking forward to doing more intentional scripted stuff, but it'll also be nice to have less of a giant backlog. Let...

Hello hello! Just another quick and possibly relaxing video on something I did around the shop recently.

This is another pretty simple edit from today, as I go through old footage. There's a nice tasty pile of unboxing footage that I'm turning into a compilation video which should be fun, but this little block printing adventure was nestled in amongst the rest.
As usual I'm posting it here on Patreon before making it public on YouTube or finishing the metadata :)

Hot off the editing press (right next to the drill press), another little vid that apparently results from half a stream's worth of filming plus... well most of this week on editing and b-roll. But now it's done!
I'll keep trying to turn the footage backlog into finished videos... the faster computer is certainly helping, and I'm making strides at speeding up the workflow too.
Thanks for your support, and feedback is always appreciated. See you on the internet!
