Keeping Sharp

Patreon,

I've obviously fallen out of the tactics industry and don't plan on coming back, but shooting and more specifically self defense are some things that I find enjoyment in and keeping myself proficient in. Especially with some of the things we cover on the show (specifically the threat of terrorism here in the homeland.). Anyways... I'm rusty and haven't trained much in years. This is a great drill that keeps you proficient and certainly enough to keep you and your family safe.

The drill is 2 shots at the 25yd line on an epsic target in under 4 seconds from concealed or wearing a cover shirt for a total of 3 attemps. The A box is 5 points, the C box is 4 points, the D box is 3 points (no head shots and a head is a miss). 24 points is a pass. If you can score a 24, congratulations, you've just passed one of the highest most feared standards that mil/contracting are held to. These are my first 6 shots of the day, I scored a 28 out of 30. Drill is iron sights only.

Just thought I would share as I know a lot of us out there are looking for a level of profiiency that is good enough to protect yourself and your family. If you can't make it, try it at 10yds and work your way back.

Happy shooting,

Shawn

Let me know if you'd like to see more of these.

You've just motivated me to start again. It's crazy how quickly one can lose their proficiency when not practicing. I'd love to see you make more of these. Thank you in advance!

I was a bit sad to read you won't be coming back to the tactics side of the house, but I reckon you have a new life now. #SRSLife! This is a good drill and appreciate if you side some of these drills our way, maybe one time it's some basic stuff, next time, more advanced. Throw in some transition stuff. That would be GTG.

Damn, I recall shooting about 750 rounds a week at the range. Every week. I was very proficient with my 38super. Many IPSC competitions. I miss it. Time to buy a new handgun and get back into it. It’s been 30 years!

Hell yea!! Smart! I practice getting to my weapon from under my undercover street clothes. It’s rough but if u don’t train it you’ll be even slower…and dead…probably

Agree on the draw and re-holster. Needs to be VERY slow at first. I can’t tell you how many times I drew that thing from my drop leg before I even started on a timer. You can start with one! But you need to be slow and have the fortitude to acknowledge your real life limitations and not unsafely push it. Now I run 20A drills at or under 3 secs consistently.

Because anymore than 25 you most likely may be deemed the aggressor, prosecutor may argue you had plenty of room to back off and go the other way. That may be only in the event no shots were fired upon you. If you were taking fire I would say you would be deemed justified to defend yourself. Beyond 25 in a high stress situation you are seriously becoming a liability to innocent bystanders. A certain percent of us are civilians and not trained professionals. I am going to apply for my draw from holster card at my range and this exercise will be my first exercise to work on. At first no timer needed, build in the muscle memory first, speed will follow. To many people see these shot timers on videos and think that is where you start, trying to build speed right off the bat. That’s a recipe for the ER, that’s my non professional opinion.

Awesome! Any chance to learn from ultra professionals…

Why 25 yrds?

Love this kind of video gives us average joes some good drills to train with. If thats your rusty I would hate to see you on your game. For our qualifying drill at work we do two shots from the 25 yard line in 4 seconds as the first part and I alway get on paper but its always low and left for some reason
