25 Yard Drill Reloaded - After Shot Anticipation Training

Hello Tier II and Tier III,

I hope you are all well! Here is the last drill in the coming back to the range after a long break pistol series.

I usually like to come back to this 25 yard drill and see that I've eliminated shot anticipation. This is a great test after doing the previous dryfire and tape drills.

Thank you for supporting me and Vigilance Elite. Very much appreciated.

These vids make me grow a big rubbery one - I love it.

Great video!, soo glad i joined, not a huge pistol guy, but i need to get more proficient with mine, what kind of dummy rounds were you using? thanks again brotha!

JIMMY SYKES

What Dummy Rounds did you use? I keep seeing reviews about certain Snap-Caps not working well in Glocks and blah blah, would really appreciate it!

Logan Hartsel

Answered my question haha. Was gonna ask knowing what rounds were wich in the mag would fuck me. I'd be counting. Winner winner chickn dinner. Thanks and appreciate the vid

Timothy Pires

I've been putting my rounds in a pile and then load them without looking. I then make sure the last round is always live so I can't easily see the second round. Makes it more difficult for me to remember how I loaded them.

M

Do you have someone else load your mag for you with the dummy rounds i have tried to load a couple mags differently then mix them up but still catch myself after a shot or 2 knowing which mag i have then almost wanting to address the malfunction before it happens

Chance Crocker

Missed shots almost always come back to anticipation.

Shawn

Keep at it Larry. Diagnosing and fixing those issues is work but it'll come together.

Another excellent training/explanation video of a library of outstanding VE content! Well done. Could you spend a little time on the mental/mindset function of anticipation? As I understand it, anticipation is a mental/headspace thing where the shooter is depressing the trigger more focused on noise, muzzle rise or some other reaction to the shot rather than on the fundamentals. The misplacement of mindset them translates into a degradation of the mechanical fundamentals of shooting. This then results in poor performance. If I got this right, is there a mind trick that you apply that helps keep you focused and thereby “crowding out” anticipation entering your mind? If so, learning more would be very helpful. Over the years, I’ve read a lot and have experimented on the range; including running your drills and making the adjustments, dialing in and arriving where all is tight. But I found that in those last fractions of a second before releasing the round I hyperfocus on my front sight post covering my point of aim. I think, at least for me, this helps crowd out any anticipation creeping into my brain. I mean it is a 1/1000th of a second mind exercise as I depress the trigger. Maybe I got this all wrong; your further comments and thoughts would be most appreciated. Muscle memory is one thing but it starts with the brain.

Glock 45 is the best glock 😀

Thanks!! Got my G45 a couple weeks ago. Love it. Did these drills with dummy rounds. My 25 yd hits were on target but not grouped even close to how tight yours were. My 15 yd targets looked more like your 25 yd hits. Could be my old age eyesight…. Or maybe I just suck 😂

Ya, 4 shots, 25 yards with a pistol, dummies, on a timer with 4 sec is no joke. For the record, I am struggling with consistency there as well. I have a lot of "Un-fucking" to do myself. I appreciate that you keep it real.
