Rifle Hold Over Drill

Hello Tier II and Tier III,

I hope everyone is well!

I saw ammo for sale at semi normal prices this weekend online and that made me want to revisit this drill. This one will help maximize range time for effective training.

This drill is helpful for training your brain to match your holdovers at different distances. You want to know your point of impact at different distances and be able to adapt at will. This drill will help it become automatic and you won't have to think about it when shooting.

Please feel free to ask any questions on the comments here.

As always, adhere to all firearms safety rules and range commands at your facility. For more info on safety, see https://www.nrablog.com/articles/2015/7/the-rules-of-nra-gun-safety/

Great drill, thanks Shawn

Looking forward to running this drill with my Aimpoint. Great lesson.

EOTech is my Choice also, This video is awesome. Consistency is the key. Thanks Shawn.

This is the exact reason I bought an eotech. It’s so much easier to run these drills when you’re running the same shit. Great stuff.

β€œsemi normal prices” I was just happy to be able to get 200 rounds of 5.56 for under $1 per round the other day.

That is coming up!

Watched the first video and didn’t quite grasp but this one brings it home. Would top of reticle be 50 or 75 yards?

Mike

I understand your point. I just aim 4 inches higher when I'm close and get the same effect. Send me a message on those trijicons, I'll help you take one off your hands. I got another build I'm working on.

Paul Jankins

Love these quick drills to work on fundamentals.

Brett Benefield

Hey Shawn, did you hit the range and film how to unfuck yourself yet? Can’t wait to see the progression

Paul Garrison

With the MPX...depends on the optic...if you run an eotech with the 12, 3,6 and 9 has marks you can dial it in to 100 yards and make it very tight to 50 yards.

There are no holds on a single red dot. That's my point. Eotech provides a reticle, i.e. points of aim, points of impact. A red dot nothing more that a single poa/poi. 50 yards, inside, with a pistol beats a red dot with iron sights. Beyond 50 yards, both are likely the same with a skilled operator. Eotech is a better optic because it provides a reference for various distances and movement. Red dots ...well...I have a few Trijicons for sale.
