Bullet Trajectory

Hello Patreon,

In this video Mathias Malak and I cover the bullet trajectory of a 5.56 round.

Lots of projects are moving through editing each day here. We are very excited to publish the new content filmed in the last few weeks.

Thank you for your support!

Thank you Mathias!

The 36 yard zero does funny things with various calibers, loads, barrel lengths, etc. There actually is a 36 yard zeroing procedure for one of the 4x ACOGs. It is specific to a 20" barrel AR (M16) with a flat top and M855 ammo. You can, hypothetically, also use it for an AR-10 if you are using a simple dot, but this is useless information because applications that call for .308 also call for glass that should be zeroed at 100 or 200. Other .308s will have a different enough height over bore that it won't work as well. Finally, just for fun, with a 9mm AR, 16" barrel and average 115 gr. factory loads, a 36 yard zero will have you within an inch from 15 to 80 yards, 3" low at 100, and from 15 and closer the hold over for height over bore will be pretty close to the same as any other 36 yard zero.

I've been using Strelok for PRS. Its worth the $10.

When you shoot, your bullet comes out of the barrel below your optic. Where the two meet is your zero. Since your bullet has to go up to meet your optic line (which is completely straight), it has to go over that optic line, then come back down. So a 50yd zero shoots low up to 50, high between 50 and maybe 200 yds, then low past 200 yds.

Isn't that the dude from the Conjuring? I wonder what possessed you to make this video....😂

Zak

Good stuff, thanks Shawn!

BillB

Good stuff, which ballistics calculator do you guys use?

Kim Thibodeau

I don't understand the bullet raise comment he made. If the rifle is parallel to the ground wouldn't it only drop? Or is he referring to some sort of optical illusion with the scope?

Paul Jankins

36 yd zero for my BUIS and red dots, works so well thanks VE

Thanks Thomas!

I'd really like to spend time getting into long range shooting with the Desert Tech SRS-M2 one day. I think sharp shooting looks interesting, all the calculations for the shots.

As complicated a topic this is, you two did a good job explaining it with visuals. I’m a visual learner. As an archer first, this explanation made a lot of sense and was easy to follow. The difficulty for me is applying this method to different calibers?... (I’m guessing my question.) I do not own an AR-15 (yet). I’d apply this method to a 6.5 creedmoor. I’m assuming it’s all the same method. But with that caliber I wouldn’t set my zero to anything under 100 yards? Sorry for being an ignorant n00b.

Darrin Smith

This is well explained. I remember watching the video you did on different zeros and the advantages of a 36 yard zero, and the concept just clicked for me.
