Lock the wrists!

Preview from the pistol fundamentals series that's currently in production. Locking the wrists helps stay on target during rapid fire strings.

New video uploading tonight and more in production.

Keep those comments coming and I'll make more video responses. I've had a really good time so far engaging with this community.

I hope you are all safe and in good health!

Lock the wrists!

What happened to all the videos?

Jake

Welcome! Locking the wrists should provide tension to the elbows. You don't want to put too much tension in your arms because you'll become shaky and start to throw shows.

Shawn

Should a shooter also lock their elbows for consistency? I am novice to shooting just wondering.

Jay Hicks

Me too! That is going to be a 5 part series from the looks of it. Started it the other day but need to finish up filming and get it edited πŸ‘ŠπŸ».

Shawn

There are some people who shoot that way very quickly and accurately but this grip is how I was trained. To me, any movement in that support hand index finger if placed on the front of the trigger guard can drastically throw a shot, especially under stress.

Shawn

Hmm. Let me think on that one and do some more slow motion.

Shawn

Looking forward to your fundamentals content!

Is there a specific reason wrapping your support hand index finger around the front of the trigger guard isn't a good idea? Feels more comfortable to me. -shrug-

So it looks like you are running a Glock 19, 9mm chambered. I find it very interesting to watch the video in slow motion. Seems more revealing in terms of being able to pick up any issues on grip, trigger press etc. The muzzle rise seems more exaggerated too in slow motion; as it happens so fast in real time. Have you ever measured the muzzle rise for the pistol and ammo combo that you are running? I'm curious to determine what micro changes in grip (the entire set up) one can tweak that further minimizes muzzle rise? A slow motion demonstration would be helpful.
