Old School AR Setup
Added 2020-03-10 15:29:36 +0000 UTCPASSWORD: VE998
In this video I cover the setup on the first AR I bought. This setup is very close to what I used to run during my time in the SEAL Teams. It's fun to look back and see this as "vintage" but the fact is, this setup got it done and can still perform. In a landscape of latest and greatest, sometimes it's good to remember tried and true.
Remember: It is not the gear that makes the shooter.

Shawn. Just joined at Patriot level. Checking out your site. Love it! If you ever get a chance, you need to check out a new AR-15 round that we developed. It’s called the 6mm Max. All you need is a barrel change and a mag change. 40% more power than the 5.56. We are a couple of Texas boys with good old fashion American ingenuity. We can use a wide range of bullets from 55 gr all the way to 107gr. Might be the new Guicci……LOL. Seriously, it could replace the 5.56 right now. We are fighting the political head winds to try to make that happen. Meanwhile, we are a grassroots movement and the people love the round.

2024-08-31 23:32:48 +0000 UTCShawn, I am glad to have found your content. My husband died a couple of years ago and left me a handful of guns, two of which are ARs that I have shot in the past but really know very little about. It is just me and my teenage daughter and with everything happening in the world right now it has been on my radar to get to know the ARs…I’ve got to be the woman AND man of the house now. This video was super helpful and I look forward to digging into all the others!

2024-06-19 02:58:25 +0000 UTCNo problem at all with this setup. I actually still shoot it! Got a new video in editing that will expand a bit more on this concept.

2020-11-24 03:26:16 +0000 UTCNow I’m not so embarrassed by my AR setup. It’s almost identical but I have a grip pod. /chuckle

2020-11-21 05:43:37 +0000 UTCI prefer getting a premium brand name with the expectation that it is quality built. Not a fan of having to assemble my own. Having said that, there are some quality substitutes, I know money can be tight and guns are expensive. With PSA specifically, their premium classic line with the FN barrel (costs more than most of their other offerings) is a pretty good value gun, search with the keyword phrase M249. The variants that actually have the FN barrel will have M249 "machine gun steel" in the description. PSA also sells complete guns and I'd recommend that over a home build.

2020-04-15 11:22:51 +0000 UTCGreat video....what are your thoughts on PSA AR's versus Daniel Defense, BCM etc.....do you get what you pay for or for civilian practical use if you needed to use it can you go with a more cost efficient platform such as PSA?...

2020-03-12 21:10:37 +0000 UTCShawn, I absolutely loved this video. So, I'm an engineer, and I love "chewing gum and string" solutions. Simple and inexpensive solutions are great. The window screen and rubberband really was a terrific solution. I learn so much with every video you produce. I'll be building my next AR, and I want it to be suitable for it's intended purpose, which is self-defense, not plinking at targets. Don't get me wrong; I target shoot every chance I get here on the farm. That having been said, an AR that's rugged, durable, and not overly complicated, is a thing of beauty. Thank you for taking the time to teach us! All the best to you and yours, Nancy

2020-03-12 21:02:38 +0000 UTCThanks! It's absolutely about the person behind the gear not the gear itself 👊🏻.

2020-03-12 20:12:28 +0000 UTCGreat content like always man! Keep it simple and practice fundamentals! Plus you prove that its the person on the trigger matter more that the price tag!
