That tweet about Janelle and Connor automatically gave me a headache

I wasn’t planning to watch the show originally because I saw where the hype was going. But I saw two clips from episode 6 of the show and decided to watch and I am happy I did. I agree with you how the fanbase is toxic; the obsession of white/white passing mlm shows. But my favorite part of the show are the relationships between the characters (Kip, Shane and Ilya) and their parents and friends. I would love to see that explored more in season 2. The relationship between Shane and Ilya really got so good in episode 5 and 6 because they were being so much more honest, open, tender and intimate with each other and I think the show did a good job of showing the risk they took to be that vulnerable with each other.
In any case, I am excited for the next queer show that crave is releasing. It’s a show about lesbian softball team and I really hope the success of Heated Rivalry means that the show gets picked up by HBO as well.

like I have no interest in the show so the hype is crazy to me but also not surprising bc ppl LOVE white gays, like they’re conveniently attractive, I think Hudson is hot tbh, they’re buff, and it’s sexy, and I love sexy romance but it’s so redundant to me and I’m not the target audience

I’m a heated rivarly fan but of course white women dominated fandoms ruin everything bc what do you mean they showing up in gay bars trying to watch men making out 😭😭 these are the same women who were shipping Louis and Harry during the One Direction days.

i’m just sick of white men always being thee representation for gay people in media. and even when there is a black queer character, they’re always 9/10 primarily infatuated with their white peers.

This reminds of Heartstopper and what happened to Kit Connor being forced to come out as bi because fans were zooming in on his sexuality.

Kenya, I hate to disagree with you but this is a deeply uninformed take. The show has genuine appeal outside of the sex scenes that's why it has found a base outside of people who find the actors attractive. Shows from other parts of the world look and feel different from American shows, that doesn't mean they are poorly made, it's just a different approach to film making. The show wouldn't have had the same impact with a straight couple because honestly the conflict in straight romance is often contrived, based off of misunderstandings and poor communication. This show doesn't have to create fake conflict because homophobia and toxic masculinity are real things with real stakes that every one understands. It's not misogynistic to connect strongly to a story that doesn't center women. And the "Asian boy's" acting feels stilted because the character is supposed to be autistic coded. His actions are supposed to feel awkward and uncomfortable. The sex scenes are gratuitous but they actually are used as a story telling tool. I felt the same way as you when I started watching it but a friend encouraged me to push through and once I saw the show as whole I realised what the vision was and why every one loves it. It's just a good clean feel good show with no fake drama, or gay suffering. A breath of fresh air during a time that frankly sucks for most people. You don't have to like it or watch it but doesn't make sense to have this strong of an opinion and project all these other ideas onto the fandom with out even engaging with the source material. That's all, I'll go touch grass now 😊

I think everybody needs to touch grass tbh 😭 the fans AND the haters. The haters are just as tapped in as the crazy ass stans. That’s why they couldn’t find dirt on Hudson so they had to resort to using his letterboxd of all things to get him dragged.
For me, the bigger issue is fandom and how extreme ppl get cuz this isn’t new. Heated Rivalry is the big thing now so that’s what ppl are focused on. But when stranger things first came out grown ass ppl were weird asf towards them kids. Euphoria had ppl in a chokehold, The Bear, Succession, etc. Another person mentioned how COVID changed the way ppl interacted with shows and I completely agree.
Also lemme defend Hudson right quick (not against you just about what ppl are saying about his acting). I think he’s really good with emoting but he needs work on his line delivery. It’s funny how ppl are trying to use Heated Rivalry against him to say he’s not talented, but once upon a time, before Jacob Elordi got his big break on euphoria he starred in them dookie booboo kissing booth movies and he wasn’t good in them. But look at him now.
And the LB stuff is so dumb. His reviews were so vanilla compared to some of the stuff I see on there. I rlly don’t gaf about what he said about Rachel, Zendaya, Pedro. Lemme see what he said about DaVine in the holdovers, Lupita, Denzel, etc lmao like those are what I wanna see. Hate that he and Ayo had to delete their accounts. Getting insight from ppl who ACTUALLY WORK IN THE INDUSTRY is so much more interesting to me.

I have chosen to fully divest from heated rivalry as a whole so much so that whenever something heated rivalry related comes across me, I suddenly forget how to read words. That’s how much I’ve divested
