Secondly, I wish we could voice note on this app because I really want to describe what it’s like to be an outsider looking in on the Americans who are too fucking nonchalant about the state of your country. It’s so frustrating at best and frightening at worst. When your human rights are getting tossed out like garbage and when the blatant acts of white supremacy are spelled out for you, even the people I think have discernment seem to choose the personal convenience of closing their bedroom doors over standing on business and putting up a collective resistance. The TikTok scam is a tiny one of many examples. Like everyone posting the screenshots of getting played, then it was back to business as usual. 🤦🏾♀️ At this point just jump in a Time Machine and press the buttons to teleport yourselves back to 1619 or to Germany 1941; since it’s all shits and giggles. I know that’s a melodramatic statement, but I’m dead serious because it’s scary to witness how little the people who should care the most seem to not give a flying fuck. It really makes me wonder…is it because you’re in the middle of it that you can’t see the forest for the trees? Are you sitting too close to take everything in? By ‘you’ obviously I’m referring to the couldn’t-care-less crowd. My analogy related to this is that it makes me think of when I was in university abroad. There were two back to back hurricanes heading towards my country. Getting the updates via the weather channel had me quaking in my boots! It was terrifying to watch it all from afar and not be able to do anything but pray no one was going to die and my country wasn’t going to get wiped out! After it was over, I thought about how I was more afraid at that time, than when I’m literally experiencing the storms myself. All that to ask: Are Americans really this docile, or have I lost the plot? What are your international friends saying?
