I'm assuming you're talking about Sabrina Carpenters tiny desk and yes it sounds pitchy but also Sabrina can't sing for real lol I saw her on tour earlier this year and she sounds the same, it's just easy to hide behind reverb and a crowd. Basically everyone who can't sing for real sounds bad. But there's so many good tiny desk performances but real singers that don't sound that way. Also Doechii's Tiny desk has been the best this year hands down.

Ok re: Wicked, esp the coloring: my conspiracy theory is that they made the movie look piss poor in standard screenings as a cash grab. Basically forcing folks to go see it in “Laser Color” or 3D or 4D or whatever tf. I know so many people who have seen it a second time just for a better coloring experience. I think one of the reasons artists now cant sing and still have stage fright 5+ years into their career is because they dont get any practice in through music shows anymore like artist did in the past. We dont have TRL, Top of the Pops, or 106&park where artists can get their performance practice hours in. On top of that I think artists feel like they are too good for the mall or amusement concerts when they first start out. If they arent getting booked at actual theaters or arenas they just wont perform.

I think the issue is the standard in pop right now is everything is pitch corrected either in post if it is a prerecorded vocal, or with tuning to the mic, so when these singers get asked to sing into a mic with no tuning the pitch issues that normally get buried are very obvious. It is crazy how tuned everything is now, even the great singers out here use pitch correction to sound more "polished".

Tiny Desk is a very revealing platform. The acoustics kinda suck so you really get to see whether an artist is a good performer or not. They either go really well or kinds bad. And some artists choose the absolute worst set list for their TD performances. I think TD is a great platform for really charismatic, expressive artists.

i agree with you on the songs in wicked having too many pauses. it's very jarring especially when you're used to the musical's pacing. it took them FOREVER to get through "popular" and "defying gravity"
