I think this is where we really see that vampires' personalities/natures are amplified not only when they turn into vampires, but also when they turn off their emotions. So it's not just one size fits all in terms of turning off the humanity switch, they all have different experiences based on who they are.
Before, we saw with Elena that she always used to say that she was nothing like Katherine. But when she turned her emotions off, her inner personality came out and she was essentially, basically a self-involved bitch like Katherine lol, which was something she always tried to deny. And she's always been all over the place with her emotions as a human, then it was worse as a newly-turned vampire, and even worse as a vampire with the humanity switch off because she was then chaotic in a messy way.
With Caroline, they specifically inserted that line "It's like she's Caroline but she's not". Because back in Season 2 when she turned, they had a scene where Stefan explained their personalities being amplified as vampires and Caroline described herself as "a neurotic, control freak on crack". So naturally, she is a control freak - we saw that when she was a human and that amplified as a vampire. Now as a vampire without emotions, we can see that despite her emotions being turned off, her nature as a control freak is still there lol - she doesn't give a shit about stuff anymore, but her nature as a control freak is to control and do things in a methodological and convenient way because that's who she is.
That's what they were trying to show.
But in general, the episode direction could have been better.

She wasnt hurting him necessarily but trying to get him to FEEL what she felt. He's a vampire, he healed quickly and is fine. But I do believe it was necessar. Her talking & explaining wasn't enough. "she's in her feelings" i mean yeah, she's hurt that her closest friend can't see that Kai traumatized her in a real physical & mental way.

Damon didn’t hurt her so why should she do that to him? There’s better and mature ways to handle that situation. She was obviously in her feelings when she did that. She could’ve sat down with Damon and talked about what she went through

Of course he’s still socio lmfao how do you not see it. First off idc how bad he feels now. That doesn’t give you the right to be pushy about seeing Bonnie. Like he didn’t care how triggering it would be for her he kept constantly kept pushing Damon instead of realizing or caring more about how she feels but he was only caring about how he wanted to apologize but not on how Bonnie would actually feel about it. And then the whole I thought that would’ve gone better. Like wtf your dilusional for thinking that would’ve or should’ve gone better you’re crazy. If it were me I wouldn’t want to be in the same room let alone the same building. The fact that he was expecting or hoping for that to have gone better is what is socio about him. The fact he was expecting anything is what’s wrong with him. You’re the one who did her dirty so for you to expect or hope for something is where you made a grave mistake actually the only thing you should expect is for her to most likely kill you or severely hurt you. And again him being pushy about seeing her and insensitive. So yea he’s still insane as ever just doesn’t come off as obvious like it was before. But that’s why you gotta really pay attention to what he says and definitely how he says it. And those facial expressions.

I love this episode so much!!! It’s a great watch, but I agree that it was a bit contrived and wonky that Stefan didn’t stop Caroline. I agree he definitely could have. I think they were trying to say he was in his feelings too much to do anything 🤷♀️. I’m glad we got there too with Stefan turning off his humanity. Bonnie deserved such a warmer welcome for sure hands down! I also totally get Bonnie’s PTSD. Kai and Damon scenes are always enjoyable. Ian Somerhalder (who plays Damon) directed this episode btw. Elena (Nina) is such an incredible actress- totally agree!

I think that Bonnie has PTSD. You could see even in the beginning when Elena opened the champagne how she jumped. But she didn't have to hurt Damon to get her point across

Bonnie clearly has a lot of trauma surrounding Kai and the prison world, I think she was trying to make Damon understand why she wants nothing to do with Kai, even if it’s just receiving an apology. One of Kat Graham’s best scenes!

I don’t think it would’ve mattered if Stefan snapped Caroline’s next at that point because she’d already compelled Liam, but yeah Stefan could’ve just faked turning it off to buy time 😂
