Throughout the movie, Abigail is never staked through the heart; just being staked will not kill a vampire. It needs to be in the heart. As a vampire, I have learned over the years that sunlight, a stake to the heart, and decapitation are our only weaknesses. Peter tells Sammy that he saw her reflection because vampires cast no reflection, stating that he still felt safe with her. This is the second time I've heard you mention cutting off the arm after being bitten by a vampire. Cutting off the arm would not stop a vampire bite from turning someone into a vampire because the infection from the bite is already in the bloodstream and spreads throughout the body. I might have seen it done in one vampire movie. Now, on the other hand, pun intended, with a zombie bite, cutting off a limb can potentially work to prevent zombification, but only if done immediately after the bite to remove the infected tissue before the pathogen circulates through the bloodstream.
