So this was originally made as a prequel to the Michael Bay films, but its success and fan support made the producers decide to actually use this as a starting point for a new timeline. So Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is a sequel to this, but does not line up with the Michael Bay continuity and cuts its own path. Highly recommend the animated film TRANSFORMERS ONE. REALLY underrated and easily the best, truest Transformers movie.
