I love the OG ST films as a Trek fan, but STIII always bothered me with the deletion of Dr. Carol Marcus and the recasting of Saavik. It may seem like they almost erased Carol's role as inventor of the Genesis device, but really the studio was just being cheap. Kirstie was probably busy on TV at this point, IDK.

Fans of the show were very surprised to see him go against type as a villainous Klingon, followed by Back to the future then as the masked toon in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. His voice as a Klingon still sounds too much like Doc Brown from Back to the Future. So to bring back Spock the writers had to bring back the Genesis Device, the all-powerful weapon in Wrath of Khan and ingeniusly use the Vulcan Mind Meld to resurrect Spock's essence .... a stretch that ALL his memories were mind-melded in McCoy. The beast creature Mary comments on looks like a puppet because it was. They didn't have CGI back then?
