When you mention "cherry on top" was that an accidental pun? The British military had a nasty superioriy complex at the time as in their famous phrase :"The sun never sets on the British. empire!" which is why the American revolution shocked the world that they were defeated, aided by the French. So we have a nice love story combined the harsh reality of how violent this time was.
