This was filmed in Chimney Rock National Park in North Carolina. I visited years ago, and they had many of the costumes from the film on display. At the time, they still had the Huron village set. The park took a lot of hurricane damage a year or so ago.

The British military had a nasty superioriy complex at the time as in their famous phrase :"The sun never sets on the British. empire!" which is why the American revolution shocked the world that they were defeated, aided by the French. So we have a nice love story combined the harsh reality of how violent this time was.
