2025-07-04 00:50:00 +0000 UTCThrilled to see Mary was reacting to Contact, one of my all-time fave films because like the author and renown astronomer Carl Sagan, I've always been fascinated with making contact with extraterrestrial life and what form communication would be made with such an advanced species. I knew Mary would identify with scientist Nellie (Jody Foster) becasue she herself has a scientific approach in her reaction to films. I think this is one of Foster's best performances making us believe everything she was experiencing was real, (all CGI) her tension and anticipation "I'm good to go. Go to go! Good to go!" You can here Sagan's thoughts, the dialogue about faith and science ... connecting them. And also the romance subplot in a sci-fi film. Also the spirtiuality of seeing her father as the ET whom I think was intended to have some of her father's real soul present. Before seeing Mary's reaction I knew she would love it.
