I have seen this movie at least 10 times and this is the first time I noticed the opening scene with Richard Dreyfuss holding the article about Chris.

My theory is that Ray Brower committed suicide. I could be wrong, but I never bought the picking blueberries story. There was much more of a stigma back then towards suicide and they probably used the picking blueberries line out of respect for the family. Side note: I had a bully in school. He was the same age as me. Same height. But he was a little pest. Cocky SOB. He used to mouth off and say and do really cruel things. Well, sophomore year of high school he and some friends think it’s a cool idea to dodge a train. Guess what? This guy nearly got killed. Never went to school again. I know this is going to sound bad, but I believe in the law of karma. He never came back to school. You do good and put that out into the world, good comes back to you. You do bad, watch out.

As an Australian I have to say this movie was huge in the 90s. All the girls had a crush on River Phoenix. It was one of those movies that both girls and boys would be okay with at a party so we saw it a lot. Watching it as an adult I’m always impressed with how tender they made Chris and Gordie. Another classic 90s coming of age movie you should check out is Sleepers (1996).

I love this movie. I watch it a few times every year. In the '60s, my friends and I would always do stuff like this. The actor who played Chris was River Phoenix, who passed away way too young at the age of 23. You can tell just from this that he would have gone on to be a great actor like his younger brother Joaquin Phoenix. Mary, I wish you would play more Stephen King movies. You can't go wrong. They are all great. Here is a good starting point: https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/guide/all-stephen-king-movies-ranked/

I love this film. Since watching Stand By Me and they used the song Stand By Me, here’s my favorite cover of Stand By Me. Hope you enjoy it. :). https://youtu.be/wspdF1Azgro?si=J6UyM2h-io4n-Yei

Me and my family love watching this movie. I'v been watching this movie since I started watching movies in general. Now that I'm older, I feel I understand and relate more to this than when I was younger. I'm happy that you had fun watching this Mary

Vern is played by Jerry O’Connell. He was also Sidney’s boyfriend in Scream 2.

Also, about the confusion with the body "being hit by a train", the townspeople just think that he's missing, presumed dead. They don't know about the train part. The only people who think that he was hit by a train were the two bullies who originally found the body, and now our 4 main kids. The dead kid was probably on a train bridge, got hit and his body was probably carried down river. Probably at night by a freight train. Is it still a little implausible? Yeah. You're right. It's still a little sus. My theory is that the train driver knew he hit a kid and didn't tell anyone.

This was great. A lot of us read this book and watched the movie late in grade school or early in high school. Though I guess it would depend on what school district we went to in the US. Yes, read the book this is based off of Mary. It's called "The Body." it's less than 100 pages. It's actually cheaper to buy the book "Different Seasons" by Stephen King, since it includes "The Body" and "the Shawshank Redemption" (130 pages) and two other short Stephen King stories. The bully with the bleach blonde hair was played by Kiefer Sutherland, son of Donald Sutherland President Snow from The Hunger Games. Oh and you saw Kiefer in the movie "A Few Good Men." He was a young Marine officer who gave Tom Cruise a hard time. The best friend Chris was played by the late River Phoenix, brother of Joaquin Phoenix. River also played young India Jones in the third Indiana Jones movie for like 5 minutes. River's real life story is basically as sad as the character he played here.
