Stand by Me (1986), To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), Deliverance (1972), Rear Window (1954), Scarface (1983), The Dead Zone (1983) by Stephen King, and Cinderella Man (2005). These are movies that I keep asking for. I would be happy with any of them.

I enjoyed this. Stand By Me and Misery are probably my two favorite Rob Reiner films. The Bucket List (2007) is another Reiner film with Jack Nicholson that I found funny. Like you, I've never been a big Tom Cruise fan, but he has a few really good movies, like The Firm (1993) and Collateral (2004). I would also mention The Last Samurai, but I believe you've seen it.

Oh you have to watch Stand By Me if you haven't already, another great Rob Reiner adaptation of a Stephen King story.

This was written by Aaron Sorkin. He is known as being the master of dialogue in screenwriting. He teamed up with Rob Reiner for another film called The American President. Highly recommend that film. Stars Michael Douglas, Annette Bening, Martin Sheen, Michael J. Fox, and Richard Dreyfus. Some other great Aaron Sorkin screenplays: The Social Network (his Academy Award winning screenplay), Moneyball, Steve Jobs, Molly’s Game, and The Trial of the Chicago 7.

You got a little confused, there was a lot of info to process right from the start.
Kafee graduated Harward Law school, and then joined the Navy (not Marines). So he was 12 months out of law school - a young, but fully qualified lawyer, and 9 month of that was spent in the Navy.
PS: the tall African American guy who played Dawson (one of the two Marines accused) wasn't even an actor, he was working in catering on set, when Reiner noticed him and decided to put him in the movie. I think he did a stellar job for someone with no experience in acting. It's a shame he never went on to do any other acting jobs, at least not as far as I know.
