IMDD CHAPTER 293
Added 2024-02-17 07:16:41 +0000 UTCInside the comfort of her car, Eva’s gaze was fixed on the world outside the window, which blurred past in a cascade of lights and shadows.
Her anticipation and excitement to finally reach home filled her with an eager warmth, particularly at the thought of what Gage might share with her. She was really curious about what they’re going to talk about tonight that since a few hours ago, she couldn’t stop looking at her wristwatch like what she was doing right now.
When she saw that there’re now probably less than 10 minutes left for her to reach their house, a smile danced on her lips. She took a moment to straighten her attire, wanting to look her best once she’s home with her beloved husband and daughter.
However, her preparation was abruptly interrupted by the car's tires screeching against the pavement, bringing the vehicle to an unexpected and jarring halt.
A spike of panic shot through Eva's calm, her heart rate accelerating. "What happened?" she inquired as the partition between her and the driver descended.
"Sorry, ma'am. It seems something blew up our tires," came the driver's apologetic explanation.
Eva blinked. “Huh? What do you…” She trailed off, her mind racing through the possibilities. Dismissing the initial shock, she reached for her phone, intent on calling for assistance. However, her surprise morphed into disbelief when she realized there was no connection. What in the world…?!
The sudden and unexplainable loss of signal, coupled with the inexplicable tire blowout, sent a ripple of unease through her. This sequence of events felt far from coincidental.
As the atmosphere thickened with her growing anxiety, the headlights of an approaching car pierced the dimming light, offering a glimmer of hope.
Eva's guard sprang into action, flagging down the unexpected aid. To Eva's astonishment, the vehicle that pulled over was none other than Calix's.
Despite the gentle drizzle that began to fall, she didn't hesitate to step out of her vehicle.
"Cal!" she called out, her voice carrying a mixture of relief and confusion. "What are you doing in this area?"
Calix, ever the embodiment of calm, surveyed the scene with a keen eye. "Need my help?" he offered, his voice cutting through the quiet rain, practical and direct.
"Yes! My car's tire blew up out of nowhere. And now, I can't seem to get any signal. Is it just my phone?" Eva frowned in slight frustration as she glanced at her phone.
Calix checked his own device. "Not just you, apparently."
Eva's bafflement grew. "This is insane. But anyway, could I ask you for a favor, Cal? I need to get home as soon as possible. Could you—"
"Sure," Calix interrupted. He opened the passenger door for her without any further ado.
After exchanging a brief nod with her guard and driver, Eva climbed into Calix's car, grateful for the ride but still processing the night's surreal turn.
As Calix executed a careful U-turn and began to navigate towards Eva's home, the drive was shrouded in the same usual silence between them, broken only by the sound of the rain against the windshield.
Just as they were about four minutes away from her destination, the car screeched to a halt. The abrupt halt jolted her once again as she immediately turned to look at Calix with widened eyes.
"Seems... our tires blew up," Calix stated, his tone as neutral as if commenting on the weather, not their second bizarre mishap of the evening.
Eva’s lips parted, but no word came out. She was simply, utterly, speechless now. This damn string of coincidences felt too orchestrated to be random. Was this some sort of cosmic joke? Is this actually the doing of a naughty little devil intent on keeping her from her home?!
