IMDD CHAPTER 291
Added 2024-02-17 07:12:43 +0000 UTCAs Gage brought Gaia into the room, George's face transformed, a radiant and tender smile breaking through at the sight of his great-grandchild.
"Grandpa!!!" Gaia's voice filled the room, and just like that, the atmosphere turned simply heartwarming.
As Gaia enthusiastically shared the details of her school day with her grandpa, Gage quietly excused himself, stepping out to stand by the door, where he found Hunter waiting.
The duo was silent for a long while, leaning against the wall, until Hunter spoke.
"The doctors said, gramps is..." Hunter's voice trailed off, his emotions rendering him momentarily speechless. "He's been holding on for a while now. Feels like... he's been waiting for you all these times. And now that you're back, I'm afraid..." The unsaid words hung heavily between them.
Seemingly overwhelmed or in need of a moment to collect himself, Hunter excused himself. "Okay... I'm leaving a bit. I'll be back immediately tonight though."
Gage didn’t stop him. He also didn’t say a word and just watched Hunter walk away.
When Gage returned inside the room, Gaia and George still indulged in their heartwarming story-telling moment, until little Gaia seemed to have reached her limit. Well, George eventually succumbed as well, and with that, the great-grandfather and great-grandchild slept side by side in peaceful slumber.
Looking at the peaceful scenario, Gage smiled. He took his jacket off and draped it over Gaia before he stared down at the older man.
Seating next to the bed, Gage expression shifted as he gently reached out to hold George’s hand once again.
…
Inside the warm, inviting kitchen of their mansion, Gage and Gigi were wrapped in the delightful chaos of cooking dinner together.
Earlier, they didn’t wait for George to wake up anymore and left the hospital once Hunter returned. They then stopped at the grocery store before heading home, as they both planned to cook dinner together.
Now, the air was filled with the sounds of sizzling and the aroma of their culinary creations. They moved around each other with ease, laughter and chatter punctuating their activities, each moment adding another layer to their precious memories. Until… their sweet moment was momentarily interrupted when Gage's phone rang.
He answered, his voice softening at the familiar voice on the other end. "Darling?" he said, his affection for Eva evident in just that one word.
Eva's voice, tinged with regret, came through the line. "Sorry, Gage, I'll be a little late tonight. I'll just deal with this last one asap."
Gage, ever understanding, smiled, his tone light and teasing. "Okay, understood, big boss." His playful response was designed to ease her concern, and let her know that their home was a haven of understanding and support. "I'll tuck our princess to bed later, so she won't wait for you."
"Please tell her I'm so sorry and I'll make up tomorrow."
"Mn, I will," Gage assured her.
"Okay, I'll finish this asap. See you in a while, love you," Eva promised.
"Love you, darling," Gage responded, the call ending on a note of enduring affection.
Gigi, ever curious, inquired with a pout that could melt hearts, "Mommy's not going to eat dinner with us?"
Gage knelt down to her level, explaining in terms that would reassure her young heart. "She's a bit too busy today because she missed work for days." His explanation was gentle, framing Eva's absence not as a choice but a necessity. "But don't worry, your awesome dad's going to help her soon so she won't have these overtimes again."
"Really? We can go to the parks soon too, with mommy, right, daddy?" Gigi's spirits lifted at the thought, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
"Definitely!" Gage affirmed, his promise filling Gigi with excitement.
"I'm so… excited, daddy!"
