The closest I’ve ever come to being in a tornado was when I was on vacation in Canada when I was 12. It was back in 2006 and we were playing in the camps recreational barn when the storm hit. The tornado didn’t fully touch down yet, the very strong wind surge and rotation went right over us before it touched down the next town over. I was so scared watching tons of branches and other debris flying everywhere that I nearly ran out of the barn wanting to get to my parents in their cottage but an older relative stopped me right as I attempted to leave. Knocked the power out for about 4 days as a lot of trees were down. Made quite a mess but fortunately no one was hurt. A swing set was lost when a tree landed on it and flattened it lol.
