I was 12 when Cars released and I remember thinking that I was too old for this kiddie movie and then I watched it and loved it. Rewatching it now as an adult it was cool to see all of the references my 12 year old self missed. It was fun to watch it again.

I second "Days of Thunder" it's a very fun Tom Cruise movie. Like Top Gun but on wheels. Literally, it's the same director of the first top gun lol.

Also Paul Newman is a great actor. Should Check out The Hustler franchise (The Hustler and The Color of Money), The Sting, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Towering Inferno, Cold Hand Luke, Road to Perdition, The Verdict, and Abscene of Malice. Just to name a few.

Also, Cars is based on NASCAR racing and it is legal to move someone for a race win, and it is an aggressive driving sport, but they do keep it with in reason, and if a driver someone steps over the line they will penalize or suspend them. Otherwise, it is pretty much a self-policing sport and “Boys have at it”. Here’s one of the best finishes in NASCAR history shows perfectly how aggressive you can drive in NASCAR and both drivers had fun and congratulated each other in victory lane: https://youtu.be/Jf_1Hh0N8Ak

You were wondering why so many laps to a race. It depends on the track and mileage of the race for the amount of laps that is in it. If you race in the Daytona 500 that is a 500 mile race and at a 2 and half mile racetrack so that race is 200 laps. If you race the Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte 600 mile race at a 1 and half track looking at 400 laps. If you look at running at COTA a road course for a 250 mile race at a 3.41 mile road course looking at 68 laps. Also running a short track race for 250 miles at a half mile track looking at 500 laps.

Also one of the reasons Paul Newman wanted to do this film was not only was he one of the most successful movie stars of all-time, but he also raced professionally part-time as well. He also owned his own race team in open wheel racing. With that background, he became really close friends with Rick Hendrick, a NASCAR team owner, and with Tom Cruise being a close personal friend of Paul’s and having similar interests he introduced Tom Cruise to Rick. After Tom got to know Rick and Rick telling racing stories that he experienced or saw with his race team, Tom thought that would be a great film and combined a lot of those racing stories together to create the NASCAR racing film, Days of Thunder. Highly recommend this film, as well. Also, the Cinematography is unreal for 1990, and this film is a masterpiece of using practical effects, because their is no CGI in this film. When there is an actual wreck they actually went out and wrecked the cars. Also, All-Star cast as well. Stars Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Robert DuVall, Michael Rooker (the actor that played Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy), Randy Quaid, John C. Riley, and Cary Elwes (the actor that played Wesley in The Princess Bride). Also, the film does a good job at showing of explaining the sport to people who do not know the sport as well, and do it in a way that makes sense and does not take you out of the film.

I second Ford v Ferrari. It’s my favorite film. Also stars Matt Damon and Christian Bale. Also the two lead characters in this film probably have the 2nd closest friendship in film history to Frodo and Sam in Lord of the Rings in my opinion.

Hey Mary, got a movie for you! Its called "Ford Vs Ferrari" this a true story movie and this is one of those movies where you dont have to be a car fan or even knowledgeable about cars as the story is so captivating and heartwarming that it made non car people even fall in love with it! Would be cool if you added this to your list of movies to watch! One of those movies that by the end of the film, you will be cheering. I know you are opening your mind and your heart to sports type movies and this is one of the best out there right now :)
