Victor Fleming directed this movie and “The Wizard of Oz”. Both were released the same year. That is impressive.

Jeff Mills

The thing about Casablanca, like with the "Frankly, my dear . . ." line in GWTW, there are several, like more than one, lines from Casablanca that you will know from pop culture. It has a lot of famous quotable lines!

Thank you very much!! I've heard great things about casablanca too!

And realize I didn't even say how much I liked it! Superb! Top tier reaction! And the money shot of the reaveal of the "I don't give a damn" line and gif being from this movie was worth the price of admission. I'll have to watch the It's a Wonderful Life reaction next. You see, Mary, two Classic Era reactions, It's a Wonderful Life and Gone With The Wind. You see how great some old movies can be? As others here have, I would have to recommend Casablanca as a must see romantic drama. I would also look into to some Hitchcock movies and Cary Grant as a star to look into.

I hadn't been a part of the Cherry Patreon since your MCU days. But once I saw that you and V did Gone With The friggin Wind I had to rush over here and plunk down my money. I'm a big Classic Era (Golden Age of Hollywood 1930's to 1965ish) movie fan. Notice I didn't say classic movie fan, because I believe classic movies come out every year. But as far as the Classic Era of movies, a GWTfrigginW is the Holy Grail of reactions. As I've never seen a full reaction before, like I say, I couldn't resist this. I've seen this movie many times in the theater, love that M&V stayed through the Overture and used the Intermission break to break up the reaction into sizable doses. Very smart. Too bad the content warning threw off my counter as my copy didn't have that. I love this movie despite very questionable content, and realize this must be taken into consideration. Hope that his might inspire the Cherried One to continue exploring the Classic Movie Era, the riches provided to a film lover are bountiful.

a few historical facts, mainly for context: Gettysburg: the battle lasted 3 days and had the highest casualty rate of any battle in the Civil War The Siege of Atlanta: General Sherman raged a scorched earth campaign in the south stealing any supplies he could find and anything he couldn't take he destroyed or burned. Carpetbaggers: this was a term for Northerners who moved to the South to take advantage of the depressed economy. The term was coined for the bags they often carried that were often made of carpet material. The Confederate Treasury: there were rumors of several million in gold hidden by the Confederacy for various reasons, Also the Confederate treasury also vanished shortly after the South lost the war. The Wilhelm Scream: that wasn't the Wilhelm Scream, though it was close sounding. The first use of the Wilhelm Scream was first used in 1951 in the movie "Distance Drums"

And, Ben-Hur stars Charlton Heston. Just to check that off Mary's list.

Would love to see you two do this again! There were movies in color before the 50’s but it wasn’t common. This movie was in released in color and was the first color film to win Best Picture. There are several other films from this era that you might like, perhaps you could do a poll for them? Such as Casablanca or the Wizard of Oz.

wow she had a v long life!!

Interesting fact Mary , if you had just seen this movie 3 years ago you would have been wrong about everyone in it being deceased. Olivia DeHavilland who played Melanie aka “Melly” died of natural causes in July of 2020, just 3 weeks after celebrating her 104th Birthday!!

Rodrigo

Also, if you are looking for a another epic film to watch that has better pacing. I recommend Ben-hur (1959). It is the ultimate cinematic masterpiece. Everyone is at the top of their game on this film for the time. Also, has one of the best action scenes in film history with a 15 minute long chariot race that is absolutely thrilling. It also won 11 Academy Awards as well.

The line, “Frankly, My Dear, I Don’t Give a Damn.” Is currently considered the #1 movie quote of all-time. Also, it was the first ever curse word that was ever said in a film which was very controversial back in 1939.

Im gonna need more of this duo, please and thanks. Also an amazing choice of movie. Excited to keep on watching as ive never seen this movie before myself so i get to watch for the first time with my two fav reactors! This is an amazing sunday even though its a sad and controversial movie that depicts what it was actually like during a time such as this.
