Things I noticed after watching “Top Gun” for the first time in years: 1. How often “Take My Breath Away” plays throughout the movie. It’s right up there with “That Thing You Do” from the movie of the same name. 2. Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise have more chemistry than Kelly McGillis and Tom Cruise. 3. Anthony Edwards is a vastly underrated actor. Seriously, the dude is a master. 4. As bad as Cougar was at landing, I was much worse trying to land on the “Top Gun” NES game. 5. I kept waiting for CDR Jardian to say, “You know what your problem is, Maverick? You’re a slacker! You’re just like your father! He was a slacker, too”. 6. This was Tom Cruise’s “Best” Period. As in, when he was getting cast to be the best pilot, the best pool player, the best race car driver, usually mentored by older, wiser guy who helps Cruise’s character evolve into older, wiser guy. 7. I still can’t help but think of “Hot Shots” when watching this movie.

Got to checkout Top Gun Maverick. Also, if you want you want to watch one of Tom Cruise’s most underrated films, check out Days of Thunder which he also did with Director Tony Scott again. Also, Tom Cruise also created the story for the film as well. Tom Cruise is best friends with NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick and he was sitting down with Rick and his driver, Geoff Bodine, and they were telling about their own stories that they experienced in their lives and Tom found it interesting and inspired him to make this film in 1990. Even though this film is fictional it is inspired by the stories at that meeting and people in the sport. This movie film also does a great job at showing how NASCAR is more than just going in circles and that it’s more a high stakes chess match on wheels and it really is a team sport. A lot of strategy goes into it and this film does a good job at showing that. It also does a great job at showing how dangerous the sport was back then, and Thank God their have been so many safety improvements since Dale Earnhardt’s death in 2001. This also has a great cast as well. Tom Cruise, Robert DuVall, Nicole Kidman, Randy Quaid, Michael Rooker (Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy), John C. Riley, and Cary Elwes (Wesley from The Princess Bride). This also has a great romantic storyline between Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman’s characters. Great film score by Hans Zimmer as well. Highly recommend this film.
