Although it's not all that common for the show to use actors for different roles, it does occasionally happen. However, very uncommonly in prominent roles. Peter had been a popular choice for quite some time. He in fact declined when was previously asked, before, as you confirmed you ready knew, eventually taking on the role as The Doctor. He is a massive fan of Doctor Who from childhood, so it wasn't a choice he took lightly. Ya know.... I've watched plenty of reactions to this episode. From memory, no one has asked that question about, specifically, lovely jubbly. Only a Brit would, absolutely love it! It makes absolutely no logical sense, but only to frame this character as 'a bit of a Del Boy'. A sprinkle of lighthearted humour in an otherwise heavy narrative. Catherine brings her A game early and continues to do so.
