Yeah, I think "gay panic" was considered a legal defense for murder in some states until fairly recently. Probably hasn't been used in a decade or so successfully, but it was still on the books. I'm glad you like the backwards style! I know a lot of people disliked this series just because of that. I like how they show all the major things, and then each episode you learn a little more about how he got to the point of the next episode. And I feel like it keeps it a little more centered on the victims than on Andrew that way.

It certainly is suspicious that the old man was bludgeoned to death the same way Trail was, with Andrew as the only witness, right after he was cut off financially. But there was a drifter who confessed, though he was just some crazy guy who may have been coerced into confessing.
