this episode really shows how messy the writing gets and how the balance of comedy with seriousness doesn't always land. obvs what everyone else has already said about santana/finn storyline, singing an acoustic cover of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun does not excuse or make up for outing someone like???? but I also hate how they treated the LEGEND Idina Menzel and gave her an inappropriate teacher/student relationship storyline with PUCK like????? that is Idina freaking Menzel she deserved so much better ugh.

Correction...at least they tried with LG, and sometimes fucked up with B and T. There we go 👀

Well, at least Kurt and Blaine were never shown to be directly supportive of what Finn did. They sung a song in support of Santana already having been outed. I’m sure Rachel would defend her boyfriend no matter what, because they were pretty much the standard white, cis, straight couple who’ve existed and bored us throughout time.

Oof, Finn’s line about how a few weeks ago there was a kid connected to the It Get’s Better campaign who killed himself. Well, as these episodes were filming/airing, there was an epidemic of LGBTQ teenagers committing suicide all across the US. One young boy uploaded a video to YouTube, with a poster of Kurt visible in the background. I don’t remember if it was the unicorn one, but I think so. There were new kids every day and I remember feeling so helpless watching as a slightly older Scandinavian lesbian. Just tragedy after tragedy. So the Glee writers obviously picked up on that and the connection to their show, and this was the best answer they came up with? Still, it was a fucked up time and most other shows did nothing at all. At least they tried with LGB and sometimes T, but the subject of race...nah, entirely overlooked.

Fiskekake

But yes, it was bloody awful and offensive.

Ryan Murphy is clearly an alien who’s trying his best to assimilate with humans, learning a little more with each show he makes, but always coming up a bit short. At least that’s how I try to explain it to myself 👀😋😱

I truly can't stand this episode. The way Glee handled this storyline was awful, and the way Finn was painted as a "hero" was ridiculous. I actually really liked some of the songs in this episode like I kissed a girl is a fun number, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, and Constant Craving, but some of them felt in appropriate in this episode (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and I Kissed a Girl). The season really starts to pick up in episode 8, so I'm excited to see next ep.

100% agree with that!

sarah

I think the arrangement is pretty. But I hate that they stole it and didn’t pay the person who created it and didn’t give them credit. They just really drove home the offensiveness with that lol

Elizabeth

I completely agree with your response to this episode. They did a terrible job with this storyline. I pretty much only like three songs from this episode other than that, I hated everything else.

Clay W

I agree with all of your opinions on the whole episode except for the cover of 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' i think it's bloody beautiful, it's pretty much a carbon copy of Greg Laswell's version. It just brings a new dimension to the song.

So much of this episode infuriates me. Santana being outed is literally minimized and treated like a joke the whole episode. Kurt and Blaine going along with Finns plan was so out of character. Brittany literally said nothing the whole episode. I kissed a girl of a fun number and they sounded great but it should not have been used in this context. If anyone was going to sing a duet with Santana it should’ve been Brittany. Kurt losing the presidency makes me so mad for reasons I can’t say. Glee actually acknowledges that Quinn is going through a lot right now but they use puck recognizing that to again minimize what’s happening with Santana. “We’ve spent all week helping Santana with a secret everyone already knows and nobody’s done anything to help you.” It’s so infuriating. The only good things about this episode are naya’s acting and Rachel getting suspended. I love Rachel but the glee club needs to not rely on her so much. Anyway, great reaction and sorry for the essay lmao.

Elizabeth

Okay here comes the rant. God, this episode.... like if Glee wants to handle an outing storyline, fine. Whatever. But this is just the worst possible outcome. Finn's the hero. Plain and simple. He never so much as apologizes, and blackmails Santana into sitting through that Ladies Week bs. Which was honestly just the most condescending thing. Will literally pushes for Santana to get suspended saying the slap was 'unprovoked' when he KNEW what happened. No one has ever gotten in trouble for a fight before. Puck vs Finn (twice), Sam vs Finn, Santana vs Quinn, Lauren vs Santana, etc. And Will broke up about half of those. Not to mention, the entire Glee club is just okay with this. They were so up in arms when Kurt was having issues but no one gave a shit here. Why weren't Kurt, Blaine, and Rachel, specifically, pissed off at him?? And not to drag Kurt under the bus, because I know you like him, but he's had dozens of scenes with his dad. Hell, even a coming out scene with Mercedes, and then all of that stuff with Finn and then Karofsky. Santana's parents get a throwaway line, she has one scene with her grandmother, and a coming out scene with her and the Cheerios was deleted from the episode (I believe it's on YouTube, though). Brittany is given NOTHING to do when her fucking girlfriend was outed. And Santana forgives Finn like it was no big deal. The way this entire thing was handled is just the worst. Just gonna wait for the next episode so I can go back to pretending this 'story' doesn't exist.

I didn't want to comment on the last episode because I wanted to wait for this one. This episode infuriates me so much but I still can't hate it completely because it's one of the few episodes that focused so much on Santana. I hate so much that the writers framed Finn as a hero in this episode. First he outs her, then he basically blackmails her into accepting his stupid lesson, and when he explains why he does it, he gives a 100% selfish explanation about how he would feel bad if he didn't help her. How can Ryan Murphy, a gay man, think this was anywhere close to a decent idea? The best thing to come out of this episode, is the fact that Santana is now out of the closet (despite it being against her will) but you are completely right that there are so many better ways they could have done it.

Haughtbreaker Nic

Bro your rage throughout this entire episode had me cackling. Glee really is something else, at least Brittany won the presidency though.

Valkyrie

I feel like the show really picks up from episode 8 onwards, lots of really good moments/storylines. I feel like the first part of S3 was a bit ehh. (other than episode 3 and 4 for me)
