I've decided to share the flash fiction story I wrote last month for the NYC Midnight flastion fiction contest!
I'm waiting for this story, titled "The World's Most Dangerous Fly," to be scored by the judges. I won't learn my score until just a few days before Round 2 of the contest starts, so I'm a bit anxious and trying to stop second-guessing myself.
The requirements for this story are as follows: 1) must be a comedy, 2) must include caviar, 3) and must take place on the top floor of a skyscraper. So I had to work those in; everything else was just my weird imagination.
There are about 30 people in my group in the contest. The judges only give points for the top 15 entries, so I could conceivably score anywhere between 15 points (1st place) and 0 points (16th-30th place). Then I write another flash fiction piece in mid-September, and that score is added to this score to determine if I move on to Round 3 in November.
I'll post my results for this story next month!
Please post any questions, thoughts, etc. re: this story if you get a chance! It has a super-villain backdrop, but is told through what I think (hope?) is an entertaining perspective.
