The original comic was commentary on the western governments of the early 80s (ie Thatcher and Reagan). When the movie was made, it was again relevant because of western governments in the early 2000's (Bush, Blair, etc). As you noted, it seems relevant again today. I loved your reactions. I had to subscribe to patreon just to watch you watch this, and it was completely worth it.

Nevertheless, I think even the most critical cannot deny the film’s thought-provocation. It provides concise commentary on much, including democracy, literature, art, identity-politics, totalitarianism, revolution, xenophobia, homosexuality, islamophobia, and terrorism. You credit yourselves by embracing the multifaceted nature of the film.
