The books and the films share that same thing - The Hobbit can never match the scope and grandeur of LOTR, but it still has its charm. They try in the films to punch it up a bit, and there were lots of behind-the-scenes problems that I won't bore you with. It's like you said in Goblintown - it's like a video game, or a theme-park ride sometimes, not as deep, but still fun. You get like 100 points for correctly identifying Balin - considering you're new to LOTR, that made me happy :) When you rewatch LOTR you'll now know why Gimli and Gandalf are so sad when they find out what happened in Moria (note that the battle we see in this film in the flashback is a much older battle for Moria - the dwarfs tried to retake Moria several times). What's not so obvious is that when we first meet Gimli in LOTR, Elrond refers to him as "Gimli, son of Gloin." Gloin is one of the (many) dwarfs on our little journey now :) Gandalf also mentions Thorin in LOTR, but I won't say anything else because it could be a spoiler, we'll see if you remember in the next movies. Definitely chills for the Misty Mountains song, it's probably my favourite thing in the Hobbit movies.

2021-10-24 03:46:49 +0000 UTCYeah, I do think they drag on a bit too long and shouldn't have been turned into three movies, and I prefer watching one of the fan edits that cuts them all down into a single movie, but they're not as bad as their reputation would indicate. If you just go in knowing that they're not going to be as good as the Lord of the Rings trilogy (because, what is?) and just enjoy getting to spend more time in Middle Earth, they're still a fun time.

And yeah there is a bit of negativity around them because everyone expects it to be like lord of the rings, and if you watch them with this mindset, you can't really enjoy them because that is not their aim. Also the eagles are the same race as sauron, gandalf and the wizards basically, and gandalf and the eagles serve the same '' Archangel '' which explains why they help gandalf a lot.

2021-10-22 07:33:41 +0000 UTCIt sounds like you might have gotten the theatrical version of the film instead of the extended version she's watching. That's the most likely issue and would definitely cause a sync problem.
