What strike me is how much this movie is like anime. Must be why the Japanese like it. The characters and dialogue are clunky but that is for two reasons. One you are packing a bunch of characters and story into 90 min. So dialogue has to be quick and to the point. Second, you don't need complex character development and dialogue. The characters are almost archetypal. We have all seen the spaghetti westerns and greaser movies. They are as American and apple pie. The cultural context is already there so no need to flesh it all out. If you watch anime you know they are similar. Streets of fire is American anime.

I'm watching Tokyo Vice now and it is very good.
I also watched Crime Story (1986) recently, after looking over M Mann's Imdb page. You guys have to see that if you haven't already. I got a good quality copy of the whole thing from torr.
