I think maybe Jack Vance stuff too from the 1950s… See “Cugel the Clever” “Rhialto the Marvellous” and “Dying Earth” You have a kind of degenerate, dying world - the sun is dying and everyone is gonna die - you have some opportunists who go adventuring, and basically have fun and not think too much Idea of D&D spell casting comes from Vance
