Parallax Continued Early Access Release 3

UPDATE 23rd March 2025 - Some big changes here! Please let me know if you run into any issues:

  • Fixed scatterer eclipses not darkening the scaled terrain

  • Fixed ScanSat resource overlay

  • Fixed 'biomes visible' (cheat menu) not working

Parallax is now available for Juno: New Origins!

Coming Soon - Complete Scatter System

Over the past few months, I have been working on the next major update to Parallax - A complete scatter system.

I've always felt like KSP needed foliage and surface objects to make each planet feel unique, so I'm really happy to be able to share this with you all.

Right now the current ETA is a month or two, but this can vary depending on exam season and how much I can get done.

Update Preview - 1.3.0

These past few months I have been working on a ton of improvements to the shader and the code. These include huge performance optimizations, better quality texturing and support for much larger planets using the new Advanced Subdivision system.

I've revamped some of the planets and moons with updated textures. Pictured are Pol, Minmus, Eeloo and Moho and their new looks.

I hope to have this update ready in a week or two. I'm super excited to be showing it off here!

Parallax - Optimizations (RSS?)

Hey all! It's been a while since I've updated you guys on this, but I'm looking into improving the plugin that generates extra mesh detail.

Currently, Parallax does this by taking the entire quad (this can span kilometers of terrain) and subdivides it so that there are enough mesh vertices within a certain distance of each other so that the ground can look good.

Parallax Collisions - Ingame Implementation

Hey everyone! As I'm getting closer to release, I thought I'd share a preview of Parallax's 1.2 update working on Duna.

Duna will be getting a texture overhaul in this update because I'm not happy with how they look in the current version. The terrain, with collisions enabled, is also much easier to navigate.

Parallax 1.2 Teaser - Collisions

Parallax will be updating to 1.2.0 shortly. With another major version change, there are some major improvements!

The gif above (38.9 MB) shows approximate collision with the displaced surface. You can see the spheres making their way down the terrain - This is something I'm trying to implementing in-game now. It's still not confirmed whether this will be a feature yet, since there are quite a few obstacles to overcome.
