Added 2023-07-17 01:27:29 +0000 UTCWe lured Malcom Kyeyune ( @tinkzorg ) back into the studio to speak with us about NATO expansion, reindustrialization, trolls, and the inherently mystical nature of America.

About new age and animism and whether things around you including nature have personality, and you can be subject to them… vs treating everything as an object to be manipulated by you (eg PUA/MGTOW/FDS) A very interesting discussion - i think it goes to the heart of many things including what is ‘trad’ and rationalism*, which you’ve talked about a lot before in other episodes. Animism probably helps ground many people and reduces neuroses * think this is descartes rationalism taken to logical extremes It’s interesting that ‘supernatural’ and horror is still such a big thing even today, when you see hyper-empiricism in the public sphere - the appeal isn’t going away. HP lovecraft had an essay on this and the unknown, and the point of ghost stories It’s interesting that even or maybe especially liberals are subject to this About this kind of animism and america, apart from ufos (which x-files distille) there is a genre to create all kinds of new urban legends or myths set in America mainly ‘backwoods’ and in the recent but not ancient past As an example see “old gods of appalachia“ https://www.oldgodsofappalachia.com

2023-07-21 18:59:03 +0000 UTCInteresting episode But the Tinkzorg was BS’ing about ireland and NATO 1/ Ireland hasn’t said it will join nato - a few atlanticists were ‘opening the debate’ but it would have neither public or political support now - at most they’re signalling for brownie points or hope to shape the narrative 10 years down the line - but unlikely to work 2/ TZ doesn’t know the reason ireland didnt join NATO during whole Cold War - it is because they couldn’t because UK was already in it - it would be politically impossible and nonsensical as long as you claim territory which a NATO member occupies So it’s not because they have nothing to fear, but because of a powerful neighbour prevents them Same reason as why Cyprus isn’t and can never be in NATO
