What’s wrong with the GPO Brooklyn Boombox?
Added 2021-04-15 18:15:44 +0000 UTCI shot this review immediately before the video you saw last week but I held this one back because I wanted to release the far more positive clock demo video instead.
I felt like there’d been an unfortunate run of underwhelming tech recently and there’s only so much of that anyone can stomach.
This week though I’ve found myself bogged down by a repair - and so far have very little to show for all the hours spent on it. Therefore now seems like the best time to release this overlong review of a new boombox. It’s either this or nothing.
Hope you’re starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Its been a lovely sunny day today. I spent most of a day on the road. First there was a two hour round trip to pick up a classic boombox from a chap at the motorway services and then this afternoon/evening there was another two hour round trip to the coast with the Mrs capped off with fish and chips for tea. She even managed to get her hair cut...not that I could tell.
Definitely the best day of the year so far.

But does it BOOM? You have not turned the thing up until it crackles. Which kind of is missing the point of a boombox review. So tell us now - oh mighty TechMoan - does it? Does it boom? Also: Did you notice how the "output power" flickered on the constant sine-wave? I almost thought it was responding to your voice. Which would not be too strange if they'd get "the level" from a built-in microphone on "the meter" itself. Just add power! No need to fuss with all that audio-signal, eh?
