Bob’s doing the washing up
Added 2021-01-16 11:43:20 +0000 UTCRandom January continues with me trying out Bob, the ‘World’s Smallest Dishwasher’. This is a portable unit designed for two people that can be used without plumbing in. It sounded like an interesting concept, but not the kind of thing I’d buy on a whim, so uncharacteristically I agreed to accept a review sample.
I’ll likely post something extra here tomorrow as I’ve shot and edited together an odd tangent-heavy video talking about my electric car, how I ended up with it and why it why it’s all a bit irrelevant right now. It’s a video that never gets to making any coherent points. You’ve got that to look forward too.
So, more tomorrow but I’ll probably be offline for most of the weekend. I need a break from the screens. Seen way too much of them this week. Look after yourself.
EDIT: Deleted a ten second section that was acting as a stumbling block and re-uploaded the video. The section removed was where I mentioned I rinse food waste off the plates before putting them in the dishwasher. Apparently that’s a big no no. After being admonished I’ve learned my lesson - delete the bit where I said it and we’ll all pretend it never happened.

That's unfortunate! Other reviews I've seen tend to all be reviews of the new product as well, so it's hard to get a sense of the longevity of Bob. I hope the early demise of your Bob is not a sign of bigger general quality issues, but more of a fluke. Enough reason for me to keep washing by hand for now too though. Thanks!

2021-11-25 06:47:36 +0000 UTCYou missed the Patreon update video a couple of months or so back where I mentioned that it died. I’m back to washing by hand now. I didn’t replace it because nothing else would fit in the space (I checked all the small dishwasher alternatives but they were too wide) - I couldn’t claim on a warranty for something I got for free - so it went to the tip.

Every time I do the dishes I think about Bob, but I'd love to hear what the experience is like after months of usage before I commit to a purchase. Regardless, thanks for all you do!

2021-11-20 12:56:08 +0000 UTCI don't know how elaborate creating your own programs gets, but it would cool to give users a lot of control. But it's not about whether there is a pre-wash, but wether it uses detergent during the pre-wash.

2021-01-28 02:18:54 +0000 UTCFilling it manually and draining it in the sink is really interesting. I think this is what sets this machine apart. I'm very curious to see how this company develops. Making it this far is impressive either way. I'm also very curious how you'll like it in a few months. And yeah, after the Technology Connections video I'm very curious to see if they'll update the firmware to release some detergent with the pre-wash!
