Aaah, the good old gaming days.
I recall this "you survived *random day of the week*" thing was a line displaying at the end of any succesfully completed level in "Fright Night", a videogame I used to play on the Amiga 500 when I was a kid.
The vampire-horror movie it was based on was in theatres back then...Nowadays it would prolly be considered "vintage" at best, so I guess I turned into an old fart too. lol
Anyway. That was for saying:
I've survived another intense week and Interactive Scene (above image) is finally done (yay!).
Xela did an amazing job with adding controllers to my animations.
They would've been merely empty animated sequences without his hard work.
Together we wrapped up something you surely happened to see in old flash games, but that we're pretty sure you haven't seen anybody doing in Renpy before.
Ah, pioneerism! No matter if it's Babe Runner or another project, it seems like we can't-get no- (nanana) -sati-sfaction (nanana) if it's not hard as balls.
No, really.
You can get a thousand bucks a month for delivering silly games anyone can deliver but if you're to be completely honest to yourself, then you should know living off such "products" won't turn you into either a "great artist" or a proper "coder"...And that "real challenges" and "real achievements" are somewhere else.
As for me, I'd always choose these kind of challenges over easy money for the rest of my life:
maybe this won't turn me into a "great artist" either, but challenges are a total turn-on to me...And they are for Xela too, so I guess that's the main reason why we get along.
Talking specs, now: in the last 2 weeks I've been delivering roughly 13 animated interactions for this scene: which -considering an average of 9 sprites each- meant 117 hand-drawn sprites.
Which means an hyper busy schedule and a lot more work than it seems.
Aaaand let me tell you, by "finally done" I wasn't being 100% honest to you:
What we have now would do for the Tech Demo, but it's not "100% complete"...As more interactions are planned for after demo! ^^
As for what's on my plate for next week (according to Game Design Doc):
Week 4:
Cleanup and perfecting everything (all scenes should be implemented by now). Any cool ATL/Ideas for existing scenes that we get can be added here (expanding upon existing setups).
Which basically translates in:
- One more CG;
- Hacking GUI with Dark;
Wish me luck and stay tuned! ^^
