New York in HD - 1993

I'm putting together a video about DVHS/DTheater.

It's taking a lot of work, but there's one bit I can show you now. I've captured some footage from a demo tape.

After some internet archeology (helped by the adverts in Times Square) it transpires that it is from 1993 - that's really quite early for HD video, so presumably this was originally shot for the Japanese market.

Thanks for sharing :)

Great video 😀

Paul Gibbons.

That is a rather LARGE hit of distilled '90s. Such a bizarre aesthetic period.

Really cool! What did you use to capture this footage?

Nice. The Japanese probably did have something to do with this footage. I think NHK was the only organisation playing with HD back then. The earliest footage I saw was at Expo '88, though it was projected on a big screen. Seeing a 16:9 HD Trinitron in 1991, however, was mind-blowing.

Wow, that is amazing! I was expecting something filmed and then transfered, but no, it's actual video. So bizarre to watch because it looks so modern, but then you see all those stylin 90's clothes and realize it's 23 years old. Can't wait to see your upcoming video on it.

Very interesting - thanks for sharing it. Sad to look back at a time when the twin towers were just impressive buildings, rather than what they later became known for.
