Clunky Souls: Lords of the Fallen

So this is a new series i'm starting - "Soulslike"! I'm predicting that the future will hold many games inspired by the Souls series, and this is a series to discuss them. Today we look at Lords of the Fallen, which is..probably as similar to Souls as any third-party developer will be willing to get. Let me know what you thought guys - i'm listening to your feedback.

I have to say that i'm very relieved that games like this are coming out. When I started really getting into Dark Souls, i feared that it might be one of those unique games whose mechanics were forgotten, I'm glad to see that they are instead thriving. This game seems like more my type of play style than Dark Souls, I mean I love the Souls mechanics, but I was never all that great at dodging. I've always gravitated more towards Tank builds and exploring every inch of the world. I love how this game seems to blend the two mechanics, especially since armor in the Souls games seemed only for aesthetics at times. I really like the fact that you are doing videos like this to show us some other games that have adopted the core Souls mechanics. It makes me happy to see that this new genre of difficulty is thriving. Before the Souls games, the only real difficulty you could find in a game is when you make the enemies stronger or faster, and that's usually not very fun. The main Souls mechanic seems to be 'Work Smarter not Harder'.

Hey Vaati, What did you think of Dragons Dogma? I hear its like Dark Souls aswell, but am yet to full try it.

Sounds like a blast, seems like they mashed a bit of Ys into Dark Souls with the multi stage bossfights, although I feel the slow loss of XP from a bloodstain is going to alienate more cautious players who dont like risking hard earned souls. Either way if it has the Metriodvania world with this combat I will be all over it. As far as presentation goes Vaati as always its crips and well written, great work looking forward to seeing more "Souls-Like" games

Very interesting, indeed! I've always under the impression that LotF was a Souls rip-off, but it's trying to be its' own thing - which is great! The monster and level design looks fantastic, and so does the player's face ;) Huge improvement there.
