Band of Brothers - Episode 1 - Full Length Reaction

Matt Damon was also in the 506 PIR although I believe he was in Charlie not Easy.... I remember wondering when this show came out if that was deliberate or just a coincidence....

that tree is SO helpful! thank you!

Matt Damon’s character in Saving Private Ryan was part of get 101st Airborne. The same division in this show. The movie was based on a soldier who was in the 101st

Camila, here's a quick primer on army organization: "Easy Company" was the fifth of nine companies of the 2nd Battalion of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR), 101st Airborne Division. The name "Easy Company" comes from the phonetic alphabet in use at the time, in which the letters A through I were pronounced: Able, Baker, Charlie, Dog, Easy, Fox, George, How, and Item. A simplified organizational tree for Band of Brothers might look like this: Division Regiment Battalion Company Platoon Squad BTW, it was *not* a coincidence that Colonel Sink transferred Captain Sobel. The colonel was a smart man who could put together the pieces. Finally, Band of Brothers is also available on Netflix if that's easier.

thank you for this extra context!

Camilla, great on reacting to this. Please keep the intros, it both helps with syncing but also it sets the tone for the show and as you learn the faces of Easy Company, most people find their attachment to the intro evolving over the course of the series. It is tough to learn so many names and faces on the first watch; we understand. Sorry this will be so long but hopefully this info will help you. The men were all paid for their service; the volunteer aspect was selecting to join the paratroops rather than another segment of the armed forces (the training was extremely difficult and something like 90% of those attempting did not earn their wings and instead served elsewhere in the Army). The vets providing their experiences at the start of the episodes are from Easy Company. The names are not revealed until the end of the series to avoid knowledge of which soldiers survived. The 506th regiment was comprised of about 1,800 soldiers, split into nine companies (labeled Able through Item alphabetically), each with 140 enlisted men and 7 officers. The show did its best to accurately portray events. Sometimes battles are compressed for time to fit the show format and the focus is on a central cast so some things which happened to other members of Easy are shown using that core set of actors. And some events were not fully accurate as they are based on the recollections/perspectives of the soldiers. Additionally, sometimes the production team and soldiers who helped with ensuring accuracy simply did not know certain facts until the show aired and people knowledgeable of the events spoke up at that time. But it’s a truly remarkable achievement to be this accurate and to tell Easy Company’s story so cohesively and so well. In my opinion, it’s the best TV production ever made. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

I hope Camilla enjoys this series as much as I did.

Which one would you want your son to jump with -- Sobel or Winters? That old man in England was a civilian. Anything he said he was just joking around -- being funny. Thanks for your reaction.

I think this is one of the most important series for anyone to see, especially those of the younger generations as the events themselves recede into history. It's so easy to forget and so easy to take life and freedom for granted. 🙏

camilla

I've been eagerly awaiting this. Thanks for reacting to BoB.
