Looking to the Future

Just to start off with good news, the community scene will be released either Tuesday or Wednesday.

After a discussion of how things have been going the past year, we've decided to make a few changes to our workflow.

After the next release, we will be putting two model scenes on hold. We'd rather produce more scenes with higher quality and better performance. We just feel that VaM is not in a place where mocap scenes with two animated models can hold the same quality as with one.

Going forward, we will no longer be updating older scenes and dropping support for scenes that don't use Royalty Free music. This includes the free scenes. We made this decision as VaM get's more popular and draws more attention, we don't want it to get a reputation for copyright infringement. This is not only to protect ourselves, but the community in general from any legal backlash.

For older scenes, we barely knew what we were doing back then. We had less trackers and were just getting used to moving in VR. Also, there have been a few scenes that have just been too much hassle to update. It would be better to completely redo the scenes rather than trying to update the old ones and we'd rather spend that time producing new content.

Also, with VaM v2 on the horizon it will eventually be impossible to update scenes and we hope to eventually completely move on to v2 and likely never touch v1 ever again. This, of course, depends on the state of v2 on release and how long it will take for it to be on par with v1. But if the performance is as good as it's being hyped, then it's likely we'll switch over the moment it is released and say goodbye to the old VaM. Even if there isn't much content on release, but hopefully the mocap will be as good as in v1.

Most importantly though, scenes with copyright will eventually be removed. In 3 months from now I will slowly be taking them down. Once I take them down, I will make them free to share as well, so they won't disappear, but they won't be here or on VaMHub.
