Brindlewood Bay: Blood & Black Gloves

There's been a murder, dearies. This week's release is Blood & Black Gloves, a mystery for Brindlewood Bay. It was written by Sarah Bolling, with art by Marcus Jimenez, and layout by Ben Mansky.

The Mavens are attending the book tour of Italian novelist Claudia Oro, the author of The Black Glove Mysteries, starring the macho playboy Enzo Vitale. Critics have long dismissed the series as a "darker and racier" imitation of Robin Masterson's superior Gold Crown Mysteries.

As the event comes to a close, the body of Scarlett Whateley is discovered in the shadowed alleyway behind The Candlelight Booksellers. Her blond hair is fanned dramatically across the asphalt and her bright blue dress is marred by a crimson gash. Judging by the size of the ever-expanding pool of blood, the murder occurred just before the event was scheduled to start. Nearby, a calling card: the words Club Silenzio embossed on one side, and on the other, a handwritten dedication: "For you, Claudia."

This mystery is a dark, dramatic, and sensual love-letter to giallo cinema, with a healthy dash of David Lynch. As the Mavens investigate the strange and psychosexual underbelly of their own town, they will come to find that imitation isn't always the sincerest form of flattery...
