Oh wow my mind continues to be blown! All the other witches definitely have the personality of their title. Satella definitely didn't give off that energy that everyone spoke about when mentioning the witch of envy. Now I want to know the connection between Emilia and Satella even more now!

2025-05-19 13:00:22 +0000 UTCSo there's a tidbit that's not quite explicitly said in the episode despite the novel saying it outright for what happens here. Satella and the Witch of Envy are two separate entities, a personality that arose once Satella, being incompatible with them, took up the Envy Witch Factor. It is explicitly stated that the Witches only hate the Witch of Envy and like Satella. Echidna is the sole exception, hating both Satella and the Witch of Envy. For the record it's in Light Novel Volume 13 Chapter 1 Section 1, which covers a content of this episode. That explains why the rumors about the Witch of Envy are all evil, but whenever they mention Satella by name here, they're mostly amicable towards her (look at how Minerva said Subaru was being ungrateful to her) There's more things that Daphne said to Subaru while they talked to each other, but I won't mention it as it can have a lot of weight in the interpretation of what it means towards future arcs, notably the upcoming anime season.

2025-05-18 20:47:52 +0000 UTCHonestly, this episode changed my outlook drastically on Satella. When this show first began, we were introduced to the Witch of Envy as being the most evil in the world. But this shows that there is an inexplicable connection between her and Subaru, and that she really loves and cares for his well-being. That there are two contrasting sides to her is really of interest to me (one being her evil self as we have heard and seen swallowing the sanctuary and the other being the caring one, or maybe they are both tied together somehow?). Additionally, she also helped Subaru in realizing that there are people out there who love him for who he is, and he should care for himself instead of thinking of himself as a tool to help everyone by looping over and over again; she bolstered his self worth and ultimately told him that the Return by Death power is to HELP him, not cause him suffering. This episode certainly solidified Satella as my favorite witch and I definitely want to learn more about her (and also her looking and sounding exactly like Emilia- a true mystery that I'm excited to learn about).
