yeah its frustrating but tbh ippo learned that from coach. remember his fight with barfmichi? barfmichi was praised for doing that illegal move because he was 'desperate'. when ippo told itagaki that, itagaki said 'oh so its ok to do that because he's desperate?'. Honestly, if its a legal sport with rules and regulations, they should apply it to everything. that's all I'm saying.

I think this will be a great opportunity for Itagaki to grow as a fighter. It’s no longer the amateurs where boxing is more ‘clean’ and technical. It’s also somewhat believable that the ref didn’t see it or thought it was unintentional, some of those elbows are extremely deceptive coming at the end of hooks. I think the lesson being imparted to Itagaki is essential for him to grow before facing Imai, who ippo noted as being a more complete and intimidating fighter than Itagaki.

Ippo is 100% right tbh. He’s faced exactly that type of boxer. Mashiba played that game as well. Itagaki just simply has to take it into account. It doesn’t make those hits right but a pro simply has to adapt and respond. As ippo noted in the episode, it’s not a ‘foul’ until the ref calls it.

Yeah in the moment I was hot about it but I agree he should have never let that shake his focus

Owe both sides of it when I first watched it, especially after the frustration of watching Tepei getting beat down and fouled in the paint in Kuroko when those blind refs but this situation is different only because as a professional boxer you have to be ready for everything. Not every hit is going to be textbook and clean especially when someone is desperate to win. You have to be able to still hold your composure and establish dominance because the ref is t going to always catch everything or even call it everytime but the fact that he kept freezing up and thinking about where’s the call and not about staying in the fight he was leaving himself open and giving the other boxer hope that he was gaining ground and getting the upper hand to comeback. Like a deer in the headlights, if he had that killer instinct that man would’ve still lost his will and been laying on the mat. But regardless I was still pissed lol

Appreciate the input. Even though my boy lost I’m hoping he bounces back from this

Definitely sucks what happens to Itagaki and he was robbed but I would say the point they're making is that if he just kept focused and fighting despite the cheating he would have won, obviously the ref should have caught it but he didn't and Itagaki let himself loose focus, dumb shit will happen in matches, intentional or not, but you can't let that stop you from giving it your all in the match. But I get being upset about the match still, pisses me off too.
