I only got this thought after watching this episode the second time along with you, but I'm thinking: can Vinland be symbolizing the other world? Not the Valhalla that Thorfinn dreamed about where Ashkeladd and other people would fight eternally, which can be equivalent to hell. But Vinland can be symbolized as heaven, where there's eternal peace. Thorfinn also dreams about meeting Thors in Vinland, which makes me wonder that even more.

I feel she knew exactly where her actions were going to lead, but she choose to give Gardar peace before he died. The scenes at the end with Gardar reminds me of the very first episode of Vinland Saga, where Thors bought the slave and in his last moment Thors told him about Vinland to give the slave peace in his final moments. During the fight between Thorfinn and Snake, IF Thorfinn had had his blades he would have inflected damage on Snake, several times Thorfinn's fists came very close to Snake but with the blades he would have cut him.
