I get we are Eijun fans but Lax... Eijun WAS NOT ready to be the Ace. That is a fact. Yes he was performing, but he had a lot of problems that he is just now getting past. Miyuki is not saying he just started to look good or like hes working hard. Hes saying hes starting to look like an ACE. Which he had to overcome a lot of things to finally achieve but no, he was not there at the time of Koshien.

Sleepyheartss

Throw some salt at his tongue. lol Bruh, he's Japanese, he'd like that.

I can't speak to Japanese baseball only American since I played so I'll take your word for it

KIMI

Japanese high school baseball. It's actually really realistic to have pitchers pushed that hard in Japan and throw that much. Wouldn't happen basically anywhere else but in Japan it's a problem.

Kelsey

Definitely realistic in the highs and lows of student athletes and the building of the story but not so realistic in the actual presentation especially when 15 year old kids are throwing 90mph fastballs with pitch count of 120 lol

KIMI

I mean... it's a slow burn lol. That's why this show is great. It's realistic.

Kelsey

A lot of ppl are giving valid insight on the Eijun vs Furuya situation but I'm gonna be the emotional outlier here and say I do not care lol It took this show 140 episodes for the plot to even start thinking about giving Eijun his flowers lol that is crazy

KIMI

I know people find Taiyou to be kind of brat but honestly I love that he found a play style he likes, that he has the most fun in and he sticks to it. Yes he could lower his pitch count if he stopped trying to bait the batters into swinging at balls but that's the play he likes and he's good at it so I respect him for that. Miyuki has always known Sawamuras potential. Always. And he's always been excited to work with Sawamura as his partner. I think its important to remember something that Chris said in season 1 when he was still dead eyed. He said "as long as Furuya is on this team, you will never be the ace". That's a good thing to apply to everyone in this situation. I'm sure they've all thought it for a long time. Not because they don't believe in Sawamura, they know how hard he works and how good he is, but because they also see how good Furuya is and they didn't expect him to hit a slump like this.

Every season there is something going on with Eijun. He has always been up and down, and down and up. Furuya on the other hand this is the first season where we actually see him struggling as a pitcher and getting pulled off the mound for it. Everyone has seen the potential in Eijun since the beginning, but he was always inconsistent from game to game. Even to start the 3rd season they mentioned that Eijun had a bad performance and Koshien Stadium for the nationals which is why he didn't get much opportunity to shine. So, I don't think it is unfair to that people were surprised by his performance because honestly you never know what you're going to get from him in each game. HOWEVER it seems as though he is starting to put it together and be more consistent. The first season Eijun was trying to find who he was as a pitcher and was inconsistent in the process. 2nd season he had the yips for like half the season Current season the show starts with him not performing at Koshien Meanwhile Furuya has been more consistent up until this current season. I don't think this has to do with Furuya's fast ball. I think it has to do simply with Furuya being more dependable and able to get the team through game to game. We are starting to see that now after his poor play at Koshien for Nationals.

yea he showed real promise, cant wait for the hype soon enough!

I'm with you on this Lax. It is very frustrating to hear these outsiders take on Eijun and sad for Miyuki's take as well. Eijun may not have the ball speed like Furuya's, but Eijun has numbers and are more entertaining to see. They couldn't have gone to Koshien with just Furuya and I just hope they've realized this sooner and stop sleeping on my boy Eijun. Great reaction Lax!

Well in terms of Miyuki he always knew Eijun had potential. The statement I take it as with how much better Furuya has been than Eijun throughout their first year. Miyuki didn't expect that Eijun would be the Ace while he was still at the school, but he knows he has the potential he always seen it. Miyuki with these last couple months is really looking at everything. He loves being the catcher inspiring the growth and making art with the pitchers. He was the first to acknowledge both Eijun and Furuya, and they both respect him highly. I do think using Miyuki perspective you can see the gap and the closing. He is the main catcher and off screen works intensely with both pitchers. Even over the offseason devising the numbers and working heavily with Eijun. Yet peak at nationals Furuya was better than Eijun. However, the mentality and the pinpoint control(remember Eijun use to have garbage control) has closed the gap between Furuya normally. Compare to before Eijun mentality allowed him to play, but now it is what builds his presence along with his increasing skill. Right now Furuya only advantage is velocity imo, but that wasn't always the case.

Well the thing is that this whole situation with Eijun is complicated because you can see where most people are coming from but it's still frustrating to see. Furuya has always been consistent through his first year and stepped up as an ace when the team was in transition and struggled because most of the batters couldn't even hit (including Miyuki). So he already established his role as the ace because he was literally carrying the team on his own right after the 3rd years left. And now he managed to perform at Koshien and go toe to toe with arguably one of the best pitchers in Japan while Sawamura played one game where he performed badly after tripping in the beginning. So it's understandable why a lot of outsiders and even players like Miyuki would put Furuya above Sawamura at this moment in time. Furuya has already had multiple occasions where his pitching literally carried the team while Sawamura (until this point) has never really done it. He has pitched a lot of good games but he has never been Seido's best player on the field like he was during this game against Ichidai. Meanwhile Furuya did have some games where he was Seido's best player. But that is very frustrating to watch for us viewers and still doesn't excuse stuff like Kataoka waiting that long to switch or even taking Eijun out in the last inning against Yakushi. I just wanted to clarify this so you could have a different perspective on this stuff. Enjoy the rest of this amazing show ^^

Eijun was damn serious in this game... And he was so angry with Furuya ....And Miyuki saying that he did not expect him to be ready to wear the number is just bullshit.... yes, eijun does not have the monstrous speed that Furuya has.... but they way people react to Eijun is so freaking frustrating.... so sad for him

Lysal Ma

(Love your ramblings.) Yeah dude I did the EXACT same thing 1st watch through getting all mad at Miyuki suddenly realizing what's been obvious to us viewers and suddenly BAM straight in the feels, only 3 months left what the hell, why you do this to me.

Quarty

It's awesome that you noticed that small detail about Eijun calling Harucchi "Haruichi"! Ykw, it's also confusing why Miyuki just had those thoughts haha. Knowing he's always been amazed at how Eijun performs and he always, delivers. Furuya might have the speed, the impact on the audience but overall, Eijun has better stats than him. And I feel you, it's pretty hard to imagine that Miyuki's generation will be graduating too hahaha I can't. Thanks for this Lax! I can't wait for the other episodes!! <3
