This exactly. Seido and other powerhouses are expected to win every year but Yakushi wasnt even in the baseball scene but then they go and pull off so many upsets against other powerhouses that the tournament organizers invited Yakushi even though they lost.

That's only with Eastern Tokyo and Western Tokyo. 2 Teams usually never go from Western Tokyo

They didn't win that tournament. That's the Jingu tournament and Komadai won it. Winning that tournament doesn't get you a ticket to koshien either. The Spring Nationals is an Invitational tournament which means the committee can choose a team that shows exemplary talent to invite even if they didn't win their prefecture and that's what happened for Yakushi. The koshien committee was impressed by Yakushi so they hand picked and invited them personally.

If you’re talking about Meiji Jingu I don’t believe Yakushi was even invited, Komadai won that one

Spring tournament is an invitational, by winning your region you secure an invite, but there are slots for other teams to be invited outside of that. Yakushi received an invite for their breakout performance in the stacked West Tokyo as a newcomer to the scene

Nah Yakushi won an off screen tournament to qualify, and they hint at it a bit in s2 when they're talking about that tournament miyuki can't play in a week from their win. It's never explained very clearly tho and I was just as confused as you the first time I watched
